Ways to Sell Your Paintings Online

Selling your paintings online can be difficult, especially if you don’t know where to start.

That’s why it’s important to do your research and think through every step before you begin, so you can ensure that your paintings sell quickly and without too much effort on your part.

Here are some tips to help you get started with selling your paintings online.

What is an e-commerce website?

An e-commerce website, or electronic commerce website, is a commercial website where goods and services are sold to customers through computer networks.

E-commerce websites may be brick-and-mortar businesses, but increasingly they sell their products exclusively online without any offline presence. In other words, an e-commerce website sells directly to consumers.

Once they’ve found what they want, people can purchase a product by credit card or PayPal on these sites; however, most prefer shopping with reputable platforms like Amazon, Alibaba, and eBay. Some of these companies also run their own website to sell their paintings.

As an entrepreneur who sells paintings online, you need to figure out which marketplace is best for your business and then create an account with them.

Why do you need an e-commerce website?

E-commerce websites help you run a business. That is, they enable you to build brand awareness and sell products.

That’s why it’s vital for anyone who sells anything on their own—whether it’s handmade jewelry or paintings—to have an e-commerce website as part of their overall strategy.

How else will customers find your work? Some, like Etsy, Shopify, and eBay, offer platforms designed specifically for artists and makers who are looking to connect with customers online.

But these sites don’t always provide everything you need; if you want full control over your business, it’s good to have your own e-commerce site.

Do you have an e-commerce website?

Starting a small business is easier today than ever before, but that doesn’t mean you can stop thinking like an entrepreneur.

In order to sell your paintings online, you need both a website and a shipping and payment system in place.

A great e-commerce platform will help streamline your business by automatically integrating shipping with payment processing, inventory management, and more.

You can also use different open source software for each functionality.

What are some examples of selling artwork online?

There are a number of different ways you can go about listing your artwork on different websites.

Some sites will allow you to upload photos, others don’t require a photograph; some sites will allow you to sell in person, while others require shipping.

If you have time and want to get exposure for your work, it’s a good idea to list your paintings online with as many different services as possible.

Even if you don’t actively start selling right away, getting your work on these platforms is a great way for people who see it online to find out more about what else you do and connect with other viewers who may like them too.

Before you start listing, make sure…??? pre-orders for your paintings, make sure you have a working understanding of what you’re doing.

This can seem like an obvious tip, but it’s one that is often ignored by first-time creators.

There are many steps involved in successfully selling your creations and ignoring even one can mean that your listing doesn’t sell or takes a lot longer than it should have.

The good news is that there are tons of resources available for each step in order to ensure that things go smoothly. Here are some of our favorites: Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify, Devian Art,e Bay, etc...Pranjal Arts

Listing Methods

Different websites cater to different audiences. Choose a marketplace that specializes in art.

You’ll want a site with high traffic and user engagement—but choose a marketplace where fewer artists are there but there is a very high demand for buying art so that your art can be booked at a higher price.

Research your potential marketplaces, then submit your artwork for listing on as many sites as possible. Otherwise, you can sell it on your own on your website. Don’t be afraid of putting in a little bit of work!

Selling internationally?

Even if you don’t plan on selling your art internationally, it’s a good idea to set up an Etsy shop or website and at least sell through your local market.

The reason is simple: by showcasing your work online, you not only become more visible and well-known in your local art community but also increase brand recognition.

Also, you get international recognition for your brand.

Plus, chances are that foreign buyers will Google search for an artwork similar to yours; being first in a search will give you an edge.

Deciding on payment methods and shipping costs

There are many factors to consider when choosing how you'll accept payments and how much you will charge for shipping.

Typically, people prefer using a credit card, as it's quick and convenient, but other options include PayPal or Stripe.

You can choose your payment method based on what is most likely to work for your target customers.

For example, if you sell abstract paintings and know that most of your buyers are techy and would rather use Stripe or PayPal than a debit card, then offering PayPal as an option might be best for your business.

Remember that it's important to pick one type of payment (credit card/Debit Card/Stripe/PayPal) per transaction so that you can avoid double charges.

Tips for having multiple products in your store

Many artists are now turning to print on demand (POD) sites as a way of selling their work. Artists who sell prints and other products through POD sites have complete control over pricing, product description, marketing copy, search engine optimization, and so on.

This is not a specific list for any individual platform; rather it is a collection of ways that you can market your art on POD sites, but many will be similar across different platforms.

Also, please note that there is no best platform for everyone—each has strengths and weaknesses—but in general, these are good places to start: Many artists are now turning to print on demand (POD) sites as a way of selling their work.

So it's better to start your painting website along with print on demand store.

Additional ways to sell your artwork online (Print on demand)

A lot of people have a hard time selling their paintings online. The reason is that they only sell through their own website.

These days, more and more people are purchasing art online. So you can add your artwork to any print-on-demand site such as Redbubble, Zazzle, or Society6.

Then when someone purchases a canvas print of your painting, it gets printed by that company and shipped directly to them!

You make money from every sale! But watch out for fees if you’re going with Redbubble or Society6.

Those sites will take around 30% in fees per sale so it might not be as great of an option for you depending on how much profit you want in each sale.

Shipping and handling tips

Make sure you check what’s being charged for shipping and handling on your site.

If it’s not clear, make sure you address it upfront. Consider offering a flat rate for shipping as a way to make your prices seem more attractive in comparison.

Add in tax: Many people don’t include tax when calculating what they think something is worth.
