Abstract Psychedelic Fluid Art

If you want to play with colors, fluid art is your choice to go for. Easy and fun, is a creative way to experiment with DIY psychedelic paintings.

What is Fluid Art?

Fluid art is the method by which paints are poured on the canvas to produce unique artworks. Fluid art uses more liquid acrylic paint than traditional acrylic paints. Fluid painting with acrylic paints, acrylic medium, and water is easy to make.

Abstract fluid art is the most common type of fluid art which uses acrylics with a runny consistency to create psychedelic paintings. At its core, fluid art allows you to learn a great deal about materials and is great for experimenting with color and technique.

Different techniques of fluid art

1. Flip cup:-

After you layer your paint into the cup, all you have to do is place your cup on your canvas and flip it over. Next, lift the cup and move the paint all over the canvas so that it glides evenly to each edge and corner. Watching the paint drip off the edges can be very satisfying.

2. Swirl:-

After layering the paint into the cup, you tilt the cup until all the paint comes out looking like a swirl.

3. Puddle pour:-

First, you pour color on your canvas/MDF board then another one layering the colors on top of each other on your canvas and then moving the canvas around. So that the paint covers the entire canvas.

4. Dirty pour:-

After you layer your paint into the cup you have to pour it in any pattern you like.

5. Kiss technique:-

hold two paint cups against each other with the paint touching midstream and being poured simultaneously looking like two glasses kissing.

What is liquid cell formation in abstract fluid art?

Cell formation is the special thing about abstract fluid art. There is an intensity of each mixed hue. This allows colors to shift, and when they reach the cell patterns in various sizes. These are chaotic and fascinate each completed piece of art. Pro-tip: You should apply a small amount of silicone oil and blow-dry the colors after application in order to enhance cell forming. In any case, the result is fantastic and the design is basic. The costs of material are also minimal.

What triggers gorgeous acrylic cells in fluid art?

Cells in acrylic pouring tend to form when there is a difference in density between the paint colors. There are different methods of achieving cells in an acrylic pour, but the number of cells that appear and the size of the cells are largely determined by the difference in the densities of the colors. Some paint pigments are denser than others.

The main methods of achieving cells: in your fluid painting include:-

The varying density of the paint:-

The difference between consistency and density of paint is the best way to create cells in your acrylic verse. Each chromatic color has a particular gravity and if you lay the least thick paint on the bottom and the thickest paint on the top, what happens is that the thicker paint is pushing down and the paint is pushing toward the top that causes cells to occur.

Silicone additive:-

In the acrylic pouring culture, the use of silicone as an additive is widely debated. In order to build cells in their fluid acrylic painting, many artists choose not to use silicone as an additive, as it can in some cases lower the quality of the archival work. There is often a yellowing effect on paint and this medium will greatly weaken the work overtime, which is one of the downsides mentioned. Moreover, if you have a high sensitivity to chemical smells, it is obviously not a perfect idea.

Creating cells Using the torching method:-

Torching is one way of removing bubbles that appear on the surface of your acrylic pour. This can prevent holes and defects from appearing in the finished dried artwork. The butane torch is the most typical of the fluid acrylic pouring heaters we see by far. These are handheld, user-friendly, and reasonably economical for purchase and maintenance. When using an art torch, you ought to look out for certain features to make the best of your buck.

Following these simple techniques, even beginners can create beautiful works of art and don’t need any artistic talent in the true sense of the word. Fluid art is also visually very aesthetic and definitely
therapeutic– a perfect stress buster. The best part is you don't need any experience in painting to indulge in this creative art form.
