  • Thank you for being our esteemed client. Now that you have your print/painting, we want to ensure that you have all the information you need to keep your art safe and in great condition so that you can enjoy it for many years to come. Works of art on paper or canvas are by tendency fragile and the aging of a print is a natural chemical and biological process. Please remember these works on paper or canvas are living, breathing things, and they need to be handled with care and framed properly, no matter how much you’re spending on it. It’s very worth it for the long-term value.

A few pointers to take care of a painting:

    1. Keep your painting in an airy room.

    2. Keep it away from direct sunlight.

    3. Keep it clean from dust.

You can ensure a dustfree painting by using a clean brush and gently brushing off any dust particles from the painting, every few days.

    Unpacking & Handling

Extra care must always be taken when unpacking and handling prints/paintings as they are highly prone to scratches and fingerprints. Removing the work from the provided packaging without gloves could cause irreparable damage to it, e.g. a visible fingerprint could leave a so-called “moon”. When handling your print/painting, try and touch the surface as little as possible and avoid touching the image area entirely. Should you need to handle your print/painting, use both hands and hold it by opposite corners, very gently, to avoid creasing. Always try to wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your print/painting.

Mounting, Framing & Where To Hang

Good quality mounting and framing is one of the most effective methods of preserving and caring for works of art on paper/canvas. For framing acid-free aka pH neutral mat/mount, backing and tapes should be used. This is to avoid any moisture reaching the art work and damaging it. Consider UV glass/acrylic for protection against light for art framing. Acrylic aka plexiglass is also offered with UV light absorbers; it cannot break, is less expensive, causes no condensation and is largely non-reflecting on the art work. An important detail worth mentioning is that the art work should not have any direct contact with the glass/acrylic so a window mat/mount or spacers should always be used to create distance between the surface of the print/painting and the glass/acrylic.

Hang your prints or painting away from very busy and possibly messy areas. Over time, prints or your painting, can accumulate a thin layer of dust and pollutants, airborne grime from cooking oils, particles from smoking and insect specks. If there is a place to display prints away from these things, or where it will be somewhat less exposed, try to position it there. Dust your art work with a clean, soft rag (old used cloth, preferably cotton) occasionally to prevent dust buildup, do not use new/thick/rough/textured clothes or any other material to remove the dust from the surface of the art work . Don't use cleaning products or water!

P.S. -Do not frame prints on canvas under glass/acrylic, because canvas needs to breathe, if it is framed under glass you may trap moisture inside the frame. Canvases experience small, subtle shifts over time due to mild atmospheric changes, so it is best to leave them without glass/acrylics to allow them to flow with these slight changes.

    Trimming

Do never trim a print by cutting off its white margins or parts of it. Typically, these white margins are included intentionally by the artist during making the artwork and printing it. It’s essential for framing and also ensures the value of your art work. .

    Environment

Light -All light fades your print or painting with time. The less amount of direct light, the less fading will occur. These art works are for Interior use only, therefore should not be hung exposed to direct or harsh sunlight. If exposed to extreme heat or sunlight over long periods of time, paper can become brittle and reach a point where it simply crumbles to the touch.

Temperature & Heat -Try to avoid subjecting your art works to extreme changes in atmosphere. Avoid excessive dryness, humidity, heat or cold. Don't hang prints or paintings near areas that get too hot or cold, like fireplaces, radiators, or air-conditioners. Warm or moist conditions accelerate deterioration and encourage mold growth and insect activity. Extreme temperature fluctuations cause expansion and contractions of paper or canvas and makes it uneven.

Humidity - Constant high humidity produces mold spores – a major cause in the deterioration of any paper or canvas and also causes prints (canvas) to wave or warp. A permanent low humidity can dry out paper and make it brittle. Don’t hang or store your art work in damp areas with poor circulation. In Case if moisture collects or fungus develops, keep the frame in sunlight for 1 hour/ day for a week Or in the absence of sunlight use a hot air blower like hair drier for 10 minutes on low heat.

P.S. - In coastal areas or hilly regions, if the walls are developing fungus due to humidity and moisture due to continuous rains, there are chances of fungus spreading to the frame. It would be wise to fix a small rubber bush behind the frame on four corners so that there is no direct contact between the wall and the frame. It is always advisable to have print with glass frames in these areas.

    Proper Storage

If your print is not on display, the best way to keep it safe and looking great is to store it flat inside of a rigid folder where it can be protected from light, dirt and humidity while being stored. The best preservation for your art print is not to frame them, and keep them in cabinets, folders or collector boxes instead. Special metal cabinets for storing prints are expensive but best. Metal cabinets are better than wooden ones because metal has no chemical emissions. The prints should never be stored in a way that two prints are in direct contact with each other. Put each print into a separate folder of acid-free paper and store them in a flat position.

    1. To prevent fading or color distortion, it’s best to hang your paper print in a cool, dry space and out of direct sunlight.

    2. Remove dust by using either compressed air or by brushing lightly with a soft, lint-free, microfiber cloth.

    3. Never use water or cleaning products of any kind to clean your paper print, as they will cause the inks to fade / run. Framing is always a good option to protect art prints from dust, water damage, and tears.

    4. Always handle your art print by its edges. Hold each side equally to avoid bends and dimples.

    5. Never stack anything on top of your paper print.
