Art Changing The World
Art has been there since the start of time. Art is about defining the unexplainable, art is about searching for change, for revolution. Art evolves with time as it, changes itself and becomes dynamic. As the world changes, art changes. As art changes, the world changes too. Art has helped bring many Revolutions in the world. The Renaissance during the 1400s paved a new path for art and literature. It spread through Europe and affected both artists and their patrons with the development of new techniques and new artistic sensibilities. Renaissance art marks the transition of Europe from the Medieval period to the Early Modern Age.
The birth of Venus is a painting by Sandro Botticelli, made in the 1480s which depicts the arrival of Goddess Venus after her birth. It is found in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. It had been believed to have been painted between 1503 and 1506; however, Leonardo may have continued working on it as late as 1517. It is on permanent display at the Louvre, Paris. Not only did the three-quarter pose become the standard, but also Leonardo’s preliminary drawings encouraged other artists to make more and freer studies for their paintings and stimulated connoisseurs to collect those drawings. Through the drawings, his Milanese works were made known to the Florentines. Also, his reputation and stature as an artist and thinker spread to his fellow artists and assured for them a freedom of action and thought similar to his own.
Most of us know the feeling of being moved by a work of art, whether it is a song, a play, a poem, a novel, a painting, or a spatio-temporal experiment. When we are touched, we are moved; we are transported to a new place that is, nevertheless, strongly rooted in a physical experience, in our bodies. We become aware of a feeling that may not be unfamiliar to us but which we did not actively focus on before. This transformative experience is what art is constantly seeking. That is art. Art also encourages us to cherish intuition, uncertainty, and creativity and to search constantly for new ideas; artists aim to break rules and find unorthodox ways of approaching contemporary issues.
Ai Weiwei, for example, the great Chinese artist, is currently making a temporary studio on the island of Lesbos to draw attention to the plight of the millions of migrants trying to enter Europe right now and also to create a point of contact that takes us beyond an us-and-them mentality to a broader idea of what constitutes we. This is one way that art can engage with the world to change the world. The artist shows photos and videos of the refugees through his Instagram account.
Art can change mindsets. Art is the foundation of many cultures. Art is the language everyone can understand. Art has made us change our perspective on life. It has made us focus on the ‘Bigger picture.’ Art has existed for countless years and will be there forever. Art can be found anywhere. Art has helped the world evolve. The circle is a shape used in art and for a wheel, also artistic diagrams for architectures, monuments, mathematics and science. Art can be found in science, literature, history, and culture but the most important and sacred place art can be found in, is our imagination. So imagine more, and help change the world!!!
To imagine is fearless creativity.
