2021: Digital art by Beeple sells for $69.4 million

There is a new storm that has taken over the art world. The traditional gallery frameworks are falling apart like a stack of playing cards, and a new world is emerging. The genre of digital art world has always been there, but with the recent Christie’s auction of, “Everyday” an art work of the artist Mike Winkelmann, aka Beetle at $69,346,250, a shock wave has gone through the art sector. His work titled, Everydays: The First 5000 Day s(2021), is a collection of 5000 images as a collage created since May 1, 2007.

On the day of the auction, Beetle is quoted saying, “I am going to visit the Disney World”.

He identifies as a political cartoonist who responds in real time with his digital art works instead of making sketches.

The turn of a new decade does promise that digital art and NFTs are here to stay. With Christie’s getting involved, the face of the contemporary art world is going to change forever. It is not a bubble that can be dismissed easily as collectors continue to swim in the pool and illustrators continue to create new work. The lines between tech and art and getting blurred every day.
